My Gaming FM Questions (Updated March 13, 2005)
Newbie Questions
Other Questions

I signed up for a My Gaming FM Account, but never received an email. Why?
  • By far the most frequent question and there are a few possible reasons.
    1. Did you enter your email address correctly? You'd be surprised how many "@hotmial.com" I've seen come though. Be sure to enter your email correctly!
    2. Is your email inbox full? That tends to happen and if so, your email will be bounced back.
    3. Another is that many people who use Hotmail or Yahoo accounts may find your confirmation email in your Junk or Bulk Mail folder. Be sure to check there.
  • Everytime there is an email delivery failure occurs, we know about it. And it typically happens on points #1 and #2. We definitely DO NOT receive very many mail delivery failure notices so that clearly means our mail server IS sending the email to the address your provided, so hopefully you followed point #1.
I already have an account. Why can't I request songs?
  • Are you SURE you have a My Gaming FM account? Having a FORUMS account does NOT let you request songs. They are two totally separate areas of the site. They do not share login information. The usernames and passwords are not interchangable.

This one gets asked... ALOT. So let's recap.
    1. If you can post in the forums, but cannot login to My Gaming FM, you MUST sign up for a My Gaming FM account.
    2. If you can request songs, but cannot post in the forums, you MUST sign up for a forums account.
I forgot my password. Can you send it to me?
  • Nope. We do not know your password. It is encrypted and we have no idea what it is. All we can do is reset your password, which will send an email to the account you provided during registration. After that, you can change your password to one you prefer. And be sure to use the Hint section, to provide a hint for yourself in case you forget again.
OK, I'm new here. Where do I even start?
  • A good question! If you want to listen to Gaming FM, all you'll need is a program that will play streaming audio. There are many that are compatible, but Nullsoft Winamp is the recommended program, since the company that makes Winamp also designed the streaming technology that makes Gaming FM possible. Winamp is FREE, and there are Windows & Mac versions available. You can download it by clicking the icon at the bottom of any of our pages.

I have a streaming audio player, now what do I do?
  • Click the "Tune In" link in the menu to the left. Then choose from one of the four stations and either high or low bandwidth depending on your internet connection speed.

I still don't hear anything, what's up?
  • What, are we your personal tech support? If you are having problems connecting, you might want to ask about it in the Gaming FM Forums or Winamp Forums. Although connections with programs other than Winamp are possible, we don't support them.

How do I make a request to hear a certain song?
  • Click the "Request A Song" link in the menu to the left, and choose which station on which you want to request that song. Now type the name of the song you'd like to hear. A list of all the songs containing the word you typed will appear, with the option to request the song. Note: This will only REQUEST a song, it will not play instantly. You have to click "Tune In" and when the current few songs already in queue are over, you'll hear yours play. And you also need to sign up for a My Gaming FM Account to make requests.

How do I see what's playing without connecting?
  • Click the "What's Playing" link in the menu to the left, and choose which station to view what is currently playing. You will be shown the currently playing song, the last 10 songs that have played, and the song that's coming up next. You can also use this page to watch for a song you requested coming up next. For you impatient types, you can view requests from the last 24 hours.

What's the audio quality of Gaming FM's streams?
  • High Banwidth stream - MP3, 128 kBit/s, 44,100 Hz, Stereo.
  • Low Bandwidth stream - MP3, 24 kBit/s, 22,050 Hz, Mono.

Why not use a higher bandwidth or allow more listeners?
  • If you want to see site improvements, our suggestion would be to use click "Support Us" above, and use one of the donation buttons. The more donations we receive, the more money we can put toward improving Gaming FM!

Can I record your stream?
  • No. By "no" we mean we "don't want you to". We try to minimize stream recording, but sometimes people get past our safeguards. However, we can tell if you're recording. If we happen to look at our logs and see your IP address has been recording, we'll have no choice but to ban you or your entire subnet if necessary.

Will you send me a song?
  • Unfortunately, no. We get so many requests for songs that we couldn't possibly fulfill them all even if we had the luxury to. It's the same as calling your local radio station and asking them to send your fave tune to you... just isn't gonna happen. If you want to listen to the tracks more often, you can request them here or support the artists and purchase their albums. Just do a search on the net for import game or CD stores or soundtracks.

You don't have any songs I want to hear. How do I request songs not on your list?
  • Just visit the Gaming FM Forums and ask about it in the request forum. We'll try to find the song you're looking for. Some albums are easier to find than others. Just be patient and we'll try our best to hunt them down.

I noticed an error on the site or in the stream. What should I do?
  • Please, by all means visit the Gaming FM Forums and let us know about the error in the Bug Reports forum. We're glad to hear about errors so we can get them corrected as quickly as possible.

Why do you allow so few requests?
  • The requests work like a jukebox. You won't hear yours until everyone else's have all played. If we allowed more requests, people would be waiting hours to hear their requested songs.

Why was the server down?
  • We try to minimize downtime as much as possible. Every so often, we need to restart the server to apply updates or upgrades. We'll try to keep the downtime to less than an hour a month. If you can't connect, check the server status. if the server is full or down, just wait 30 minutes or so and it should be available again.

Why didn't you respond to my e-mail?
  • You asked a question already answered in this FAQ or on the Gaming FM Forums. Or perhaps you sent it in a language we couldn't translate.

Can you show me how to make a site like this?
  • We'd love to be able to teach everyone who asked, but unfortunately, you'll just have to learn the way we did: Get a book and/or download a free HTML layout program like Netscape Composer. We've already answered some basic questions about the site in the "How'd they do that?" forum.

Who are you guys?
  • Click the button that says The Crew in the menu to the left.
